Yellowhammer, watercolour on paper, 23 by 23cm £120
A yellowhammer sits on a branch of cherry blossom in a back garden in spring. The Romantic poet, John Clare, wrote a poem about this bird, the last few lines being:
In early spring, when winds blow chilly cold,
The yellowhammer, trailing grass, will come
To fix a place and choose an early home,
With yellow breast and head of solid gold.

Linnet on Cherry Blossom , watercolour on paper, 23 by 23cm £120
A linnet about to chirp out its song on a branch of cherry blossom overlooking some typical English country cottages. The linnet is named for liking the seeds of flax from which linen is made.

Bullfinch on Cherry Blossom , watercolour on paper, 23 by 23cm £120
A bullfinch perched on a branch of cherry blossom in a Cotswold village I've visited in past, overlooking the church and the surrounding countryside. A pretty idyllic spot!

Long-tailed Tit on Cherry Blossom , watercolour on paper, 23 by 23cm, SOLD
A lovely petite and round bodied garden bird with a long tail, which usually moves around in a small flock to feed. Here it perches on some cherry blossom in a section of parkland.

Wild meadow panel, watercolour on paper, 11.5 by 25.5cm SOLD
Birds, bees and butterflies enjoy a meadow on a sunny day

Tortoiseshell and Chives, acrylic on tinted paper, SOLD
This was painted from a photograph I took of some chives in my garden on which a tortoiseshell butterfly suddenly landed. There are a few stems of wheat and grasses which have seeded themselves from the nearby farmer's field.

Welsummer cockerel and hen, watercolour on paper, 36 by 26cm £130
A Welsummer cockerel and hen go for a stroll down a farm track in a field. The Welsummer chicken is named after the village of Welsum in Holland, and they are popular domestic hens to keep for egg laying.

House Sparrows on Hawthorn, pen and ink on paper, 36 by 25.5 cm £25 clearance
There is an abundance of house sparrows right outside my cottage window who make use of the hawthorn hedge and the bird feeders all day long. This was drawn from photographs taken of them in the hedge. They've just had a hard winter but are tweeting away happily now that spring has arrived.

Bullfinches on Apple Blossom, watercolour on paper, 24.4 by 72.3cm, not for sale.
A male and female bullfinch painted life-size and posed on some branches of apple blossom from a tree in my garden to convey the message that Spring has arrived. I wanted to do the painting as a compositional panel to evoke an oriental feel.

Dragonfly and Common Rushes, watercolour and mixed media on paper, 17.8 by 22.8cm £130
It was trying to capture the iridescence of the dragonfly's wings that made me choose this subject, as well as dragonflies featuring heavily in Art Nouveau work which I love. I used some pva modelling and gold paint to add some jewel-like touches. In Japan, dragonflies are symbols of courage, strength, and happiness.

Marine Life, watercolour and mixed media on paper, 36.4 by 21cm £120
I had fun with this one! I used pva modelling, tube-lining and gold paint to evoke an underwater scene at seabed level of imagined creatures 'planted' between stones trying to catch drifting life forms to feed on.

Seashells, mixed media on paper, 22 by 22cm £110
A composition of some shells I've collected over the years, with real sand used as a base. I think my favourite has to be the turban shell for the iridescence, which I tried to capture with pearlised paint.

Beach, mixed media on paper, 22 by 22cm £110
A semi-abstract study of the texures on a shoreline, including seaweed and drifts and furrows of sand. This can be paired with the 'Seashells' painting if so desired, as they were intended to be displayed together.

Tropical Fish, mixed media on paper, 22 by 22cm SOLD
I used sand, beads, tube-lining and watercolour to create this rich environment for a tropical fish.
